Genesis wins Excellence Award

Unrecognisable from it’s life as a former supermarket, the Genesis Energy building in Hamilton received an Award of Excellence in the Commercial Office category at the Property Industry Awards 2018. The purpose of the 7,000m2 office development was to consolidate Genesis staff from different offices around the Waikato into the one Central location, delivering efficiencies and a greater collaboration between staff.
The building utilised the shell of the old supermarket and was converted into an impressive, ‘A-grade’ office space. The finished product features large floor plates that slice between levels 1 and 2, undercover parking and aluminium solar shades. Interior green design features provide a natural outlook whilst reinforcing the building’s connection to the green belt of Hamilton.
BCD Group was a key consultant in the project, providing Planning and Geotechnical and Structural Engineering services. As the building is intended to be used as a post-disaster facility the building must remain operational immediately after an earthquake or any other natural disaster event. To achieve this the building has been designed to withstand 1 in 2500-year wind and seismic events and all of the building services are designed to be self-sufficient and operational without dependence on the surrounding city infrastructure network immediately following this event.
