BCD Group Limited was engaged by Waipa District Council to undertake the Design, Tender and Construction Monitoring, and resource consenting requirements for the Lake Te Ko Utu Outfall. Approximately 80% of the stormwater from Cambridge eventually discharges to the Karapiro stream via this outlet. The existing outlet structure was in a state of disrepair and the hill slope was at risk of failing, therefore a comprehensive redesign was required.
BCD Group together with specialist sub consultants undertook the following:
- Investigate the existing ground conditions
- Design and detail erosion control devices to the lower level outlet
- Prepare all tender documents for the procurement and construction services
- Provided assistance on resource consent applications and environmental issues throughout the project
- Provide a technical review of all construction documents
- Provide construction monitoring services throughout the project
This project was completed early June 2013, on schedule and within budget. This project presented complex engineering challenges due to the site conditions, water volumes and forces.
Furthermore from a resource consenting perspective, due to the sensitive surrounding environment and surrounding ecological impacts. The project also required close liaison with local iwi due to nearby historical Pa sites.
